My first Pinot from the Sonoma Coast AVA

Nov 29th, 2011 Jayne Pearce ,

This intriguing 2006 pinot is from the Torres family Dona Margarita vineyard in Russian River Valley where the Pacific provides a cooling influence on the ripening process.

It has a fuller body than say a typical, lighter Burgundy with more stewed strawberries and raspberries on the nose and fuller bodied plum, oak and a little green spice, perhaps cardamon, on the palate. Something was lacking though as the wine was too shy to linger and perhaps needed more time to develop some earthy aromas. I predictably went with the Duck Club Restaurant’s recommended duck cassoulet which was a good pairing.
